Why the iPod Is A Horrible Idea for Wedding Reception Music

So you are on a tight wedding budget, and wondering where you can cut a few corners. Unfortunately, many couples have been wrongly advised to skimp on the reception entertainment.
In recent years, there have been several articles about how the technology of the day will allow you to "self-serve" your reception music via the iPod, as opposed to hiring a DJ. While the concept is interesting, and is initially attractive from a purely economic standpoint, there are several aspects of doing this that are unrealistic, inconvenient, inefficient, and cost far more than you think.

Dance Floor Dynamite Vol. 2

It's Wednesday, and that means time for Vol. 2 of our series on great dancing songs. Once again we will list 5 musts, and 1 that is a habit more than a must.

1. Love Shack - B52s
This one will get the ladies on the floor....Where the ladies go... the men follow.

2. Yeah - Usher
Not one for out of the gates generally, but when people start getting tired, they can't resist dancing anyway.

3. Cupid Shuffle
Great, and easy participation dance that even Grandma will dance to.

4. Faithfully - Journey

Dance Floor Dynamite Vol. 1

There are great songs...and there are great DANCE songs. For the next 4 Wednesday's we will share 5 great songs to fill a dance floor, and 1 song that while it may not have hit the do not play list, has been wildly over used. Share your opinions!

1. V.I.C - Wobble
The Wobble is a participation dance sure to get your party moving. It is easy to learn, and your guests that don't know it, and the ones less likely to dance at all, are sure to hit the dance floor when they see everyone having this much fun.

Plan Your Wedding in 30 Days

Wedding planning can turn into months of obsessing over endless details, stressful deadlines, family drama and enough to make you want to elope. Your perfect day can be planned in 30 days or less, and we will prove it!

Here's How:

Week 1: Set the date, budget, guest list, and style.

Since the average wedding cost $29,000 in 2012, keep in mind that the larger the guest list, the closer you get to that number. The average wedding guest list is @140 people.

What style suites your taste? Will you go for the big formal, a dressy cocktail party, or a more laid back party celebration?

How Much Sound Do I Need

Wedding DJ CincinnatiYou are planning your reception or event, so how much sound do you need? Well the answer is simple..... It depends.

Certainly, much of the decision will be based upon the size of your event, but the other things to strongly weigh are your personal tastes, musical genre, and room configuration. See our blog post on Reception Configuration for additional information.

Large Room?

If your room is extremely large, you simply are not going to have good coverage with a 2 speaker sound system. Sure, everyone will be able to hear in most cases, but if this is supposed to be a party, then just hearing it isn't enough.

Reception Area Configuration

When planning your big day, one of the most important things to get right is the reception venue and its configuration. Over the years, I have seen some great ones, and some awful ones. Many couples, planners, and venues make a great effort in determining the room size and configurations based on the number of anticipated guests, but place lesser emphasis upon guest/event traffic flow, and DJ/dance floor placements. Let's take a look at these sometimes overlooked concerns, and apply two tips to perfect the night.

Wedding Budgets

According to The Knot, Here is the average cost of the wedding in our area. The second image is the national average, and includes a breakdown of itemized expenditures. Old School Entertainment's Cincinnati Wedding Disc Jockeys will help you minimize the cost, and maximize the fun!

I found someone "Cheaper" Now prepare for Armageddon!

When it comes to vendors for your wedding day, there are many things to consider. One of the top things many couples have to think about is the budget. Typically, vendors in any particular service area are fairly competitive on pricing with similar service options. When it comes to DJ services, there can be some undesirable surprises.

Every year, we book 3-5 "911 weddings" where the DJ has bailed out of the reception within a week or two of the date. How in the world does this happen?

Tradition...but NOT traditional

The First Dances are a tradition, but you don't have to be traditional. Here is a video of one of the BEST Mother/Son dances we have seen to date. This wasn't our wedding, but Old School Entertainment will work with you to create non traditional moments like this.
